Purpose of the course
This course is designed to enable learners to increase the level of knowledge about the principles of community oriented policing leading mutual understanding between law enforcement officers and the general public.
Expected learning outcomes
By the end of this course, the learner should be able to;-
1. Explain the models of community policing
2. Describe crime prevention strategies using community policing strategies
3. Apply advanced community policing and problem solving strategies
4. Explain crime analysis and intelligence-led policing and preventative policing
5. Promote co-operation between the community and the police in fulfilling the needs of the community regarding policing.
Course content
Definition of community policing; the state of policing today; models of community policing; crime prevention strategies; elements of community involvement policing; Law enforcement and community policing; Community policing strategies: coaching, mentoring and performance expectations; Challenges of Community Policing; Case study of Nyumba kumi initiative in Kenya.
